I’ve had the pleasure to work with Monica for the past few years. Not only is she one of my favorite romance writers, she’s also a wonderful friend. This award-winning author of nine books has the ability to pen a sizzling romance and she doesn’t disappoint her fans in her latest paranormal release, Charm Me Baby.
Why did you decide to write romance novels?
In 1994, Kensington Publishing came out with the first black romance novel line. I’d been turned off romance before because it seemed to be a rule in the industry that black folks didn’t have romance, at least en masse. I was very excited about the new line. I had surgery and was off work (I’m an RN). I wrote MIDNIGHT BLUE with a sister having hot romance, just for that line.
How much of your personality and life experiences are in your writing?
I think I have a great imagination 
! People say my writing does show a bit of my humor, which is a tad offbeat.
When did you first think about writing and what prompted you to submit your first ms?
I’ve always wanted to be a writer, ever since elementary school. I’ve always been an avid reader.
Generally, how long does it take you to write a book?
Depends on the deadline and how hard I have to push it. A few months, maybe?
